It’s Monday morning in New York City, where a wallaby somehow ended up at Coney Island.
Nothing really surprises me about NYC anymore, so I wasn’t shocked to learn that someone got their hands on a wild Australian marsupial and the NYPD had to confiscate it. I do have some more questions, though.
Here’s what else is happening:
- Another thing that doesn’t surprise me much? NYC apartment listings. Here’s one with a bathtub in the kitchen.
- Avid swimmers at Brooklyn beaches took matters into their own hands to try to prevent jet skiers from running over people in the water by using a buoy loophole to install their own.
- Over in New Jersey waters, the humpback whale found dead on the Jersey Shore was likely killed after hitting a ship or boat, an analysis showed.
- In more sad animal news, the Shiba Inu dog who became a meme has died after a cancer battle.
- The hottest neighborhood in Manhattan (temperature wise) was found to be Washington Heights, which is over 90% hard surface and only 3% vegetation.
- NYC’s rat population increased by roughly 50% since 2010, from an estimated 2 million to 3 million now, according to an analysis by M&M Pest Control.
- A clip posted to Twitter by CBS News shows a stranger randomly kissing Brooklyn Councilwoman Inna Vernikov on the cheek and walking away as she was speaking on camera.
- And finally, cheers to more cat cafes:
