Good Friday morning in New York City, where the hot garbage smell is even worse this summer.
Here's what else is happening:
- Subway delays due to fallen trees and branches on outdoor tracks, especially on the B and Q lines south of Prospect Park, are up this year.
- A woman who tried blocking patients from entering a Lower Manhattan Planned Parenthood in 2020 has been sentenced to more than three years in prison.
- Residents of Bayside, Queens, have gotten increasingly annoyed by planes flying out of LaGuardia on a flight path that was created in 2012 as a way to avoid disrupting the U.S. Open tennis tournament.
- Hell Gate has a great deep dive on the + POOL, the proposed plus-shaped floating pool in the East River that for the past 15 years might have seemed more like a PR fever dream than something that'll actually materialize.
- In other pool news, yes, Olympic swimmers pee in the water because they're hydrated to the hilt and it takes 20 minutes to get out of their skin-tight suits.
- Actors in movies about the Roman Empire should not be using posh British accents. (They should sound like Mario and Luigi.)
- The Ohio Supreme Court ruled yesterday that boneless chicken wings can still include bones.
