Congrats, it's already Thursday in New York City, where the weather guy gave today's forecast a brutal 3 out of 10, despite moderate temperatures.
Here's what else is up today:
- A new report shows that many of New York City's schools aren’t accessible for students with physical disabilities, which excludes them from participating in programs.
- Former New York City mayor, Rudy Giuliani, has turned himself in at an Atlanta jail. He's facing 13 charges for his efforts to overturn then-President Trump’s loss in the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. How exactly did "America's Mayor" end up here?
- Giuliani's surrender came just as the GOP held its first debate for the next presidential election. Since we're all dying to know who "won" that, here's a piece from the New York Times opinion section ranking the winners and losers. The highest score went to former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, scoring 6.3 out of 10. Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie got a 4.8.
- Has NYC made a full pandemic recovery? This tracker from THE CITY is measuring how far we’ve come, and how much more we still have to do.
- The city *just* deployed a new giant garbage bin program in Harlem, with hopes to make waves in the battle against rats. And yet, the sanitation department is now phasing out a similar program in Hell’s Kitchen three months ahead of schedule.
- A group of street vendors in Sunset Park started a humble market that grew to a grand celebration before being shut down by the NYPD. Now, they’re fighting to keep their space in the neighborhood.
- This one hurt: New York was chosen as the second coolest city in the country, outranked by Portland, Oregon.
- Why did two seemingly identical penthouses in the West Village sell for drastically different amounts this summer? Curbed looked into the $13.5 million mystery.
- If only the subway fare hike could cover hiring a cute cat to monitor every turnstile (but it definitely won't).
