Good Tuesday morning in New York City, where I'm practicing my Reemski.
Here's what else is happening:
- Curbed has great photos of people around New York City watching the eclipse.
- Hell Gate has a great scene report from the McDonald's parking lot off Route 9 in Plattsburgh, where people also gathered to watch the eclipse.
- A prominent police reform advocate has filed a federal lawsuit accusing top NYPD brass of spreading confidential information about her rape — which she'd reported to police — and saying she'd made up the assault to send an "innocent African American man to jail."
- "In an expensive city, the most important school amenity for some parents might not be a state-of-the-art science lab or a media studio, but affordable child care": A Bed-Stuy charter school turned around an enrollment slump by offering free after-school programming.
- The NYPD is experimenting with windshield boots, or "barnacle devices," as a way to apprehend serial parking violators after some drivers have managed to get traditional parking boots off their wheels.
- Here's a first look at what the new pedestrian and cyclist path over the Queensboro Bridge will look like.
- WSJ: "Biden Is Spending $1 Trillion to Fight Climate Change. Voters Don’t Care."
- The Russian republic of Chechnya is banning dance music that doesn't "correspond to a tempo of 80-116 beats per minute," saying music that's too slow or too fast contains a "polluting" Western influence and doesn't "conform to the Chechen mentality and sense of rhythm."
- And finally, say cheese:
