In honor of this morning's drizzle let's update the precipitation graph! Through 9 a.m. this morning 36.79 inches of rain had been measured in the Central Park rain gauge this year. That's slightly more than an inch than normal through mid-September and nearly twenty inches less than this time in 2011. What's striking about this year's pattern is that more than half the year's precipitation fell from roughly mid-May to mid-June. In the three months since then only eight inches of rain has fallen. Don't worry, plenty of rain has fallen upstate and the water storage in the reservoirs that supply the city is above normal.

A really weak cold front is passing through the area this morning and that's what's producing the light rain. Drier air will arrive by noon-ish. That will put an end to the rain and might bring clear skies this afternoon. A second, stronger, cold front will pass tonight and that will bring a cooler day tomorrow. Tuesday's high will only reach the mid 60s under sunny skies.

A ridge of high pressure builds over the eastern US later in the week and that will warm us up for a few days. Wednesday's high should rebound to the lower 70s, while Thursday and Friday are expected to reach the mid to upper 70s. The next chance of rain looks to be next Saturday.
