Mayor Bill De Blasio dropped by The Daily Show last night for an interview with host Trevor Noah. It's a relaxed-fit Dad jeans segment, featuring de Blasio in a bright green tie (he'd just announced that he will be marching in the St. Patrick's Day parade for the first time as mayor) talking Airbnb, Uber, universal pre-K, and how it feels to be New York's complaint desk. "What does a mayor actually do?" Noah asked in the beginning. "I’m still trying to figure that out," de Blasio replied.
In the extended interview, Noah asked de Blasio why he's endorsing Hillary Clinton instead of Bernie Sanders, considering how much lip service de Blasio has paid to income equality. Speaking specifically of Wall Street and Clinton's refusal to release the transcripts of her speeches to Goldman Sachs, the mayor said, "On controlling Wall Street, her platform is considered by many to be tougher than Bernie Sanders. I use Paul Krugman, the greatest progressive economist, who says very clearly, Hillary's solutions are more stringent for reigning in Wall Street."
Noah's blandly soporific interview demeanor puts us right to sleep, but before dozing off we think we heard some familiar talk about police brutality, solitary confinement reform at Rikers Island, and De Blasio's decision to march in the St. Patrick's Day parade.
