An 82-year-old cyclist has died of injuries he sustained while biking along the Hudson River Greenway a month ago, one of four traffic-related fatalities that occurred in New York City yesterday.
According to an NYPD release, on July 23 shortly before 4 p.m., cyclist Ben Jone was found lying on the southbound bike path near West 79th Street and the Henry Hudson Parkway.
The release states that Jone had sustained "head trauma," and that "no other vehicles involved were observed at the scene." Jone, who lived on West 110th Street, was taken to Saint Luke's Hospital; he died yesterday.
An NYPD spokeswoman could not provide any additional information, and the investigation is ongoing.
In Far Rockaway, a cyclist was struck and killed by the driver of a U-Haul truck. According to the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad, the 61-year-old male cyclist, whose name has not been released, was biking southbound on Bayport Place against the flow of traffic at around 7:20 p.m., when he made a right turn onto Augustina Avenue and hit the truck's driver side mirror.
The driver of the truck remained on the scene, and there are no arrests.
In Bay Ridge shortly before 11:30 p.m., police say 29-year-old Danielle Arronson was sitting in the back passenger seat of a 2002 GMC Envoy when the driver, a 35-year-old male, made a right turn from 5th Avenue onto Bay Ridge Parkway. NYPD CIS determined that the rear door opened during the turn, ejecting Arronson.
Arronson was transported to Lutheran Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The driver, who police do not name, was taken into custody, and charges against him are pending.
And yesterday morning, 69-year-old Rochelle Wahrman was struck and killed by an MTA bus driver as she was crossing 57th Street mid-block between 8th Avenue and Broadway.
