Police have released a sketch of a suspect accused of robbing a young woman in Central Park on Sunday night.
According to the NYPD, at about 8 p.m. on May 10th, a 19-year-old woman was walking through the park near 109th Street and East Drive when she passed a man who tried to strike up a conversation with her. Investigators say the suspect "then asked the victim to sit down with him and stated to her that he had a knife and demanded her property. The victim complied by giving him her wallet."
The victim was not injured and the suspect fled. He is described as being about 20 years old, 5' and 130 pounds with black hair in a bun and wearing cargo pants.
Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
Police are also looking for suspects accused of punching and mugging a teen in Central Park, near the Hecksher Playground, on Saturday night. A second man was allegedly mugged, on 81st Street and West Drive, on Saturday night as well. NYPD patrols in the park have reportedly been increased, though Police Commissioner Bratton called the crime an "aberration."
