The body of a newborn baby girl was found in a Washington Heights alley on Tuesday. Now police have charged the mother of the baby with self-abortion.
Yaribely Almonte, 20, was charged with first-degree self-abortion; police believe the baby was 24 weeks, which makes it a first-degree misdemeanor. According to DNAinfo, "Sources said that Almonte, who also has a 3-year-old daghter, told investigators that she had taken an herbal tea before delivering the baby, who was stillborn."
Gregory Santana, who made the terrible discovery on West 191st Street, told the Post, "It was placed on top of the garbage... It was inside a small bucket then it was inside a couple of bags. I’m still shaken."
