An off-duty NYPD Inspector has died following a collision with a dump truck in the Bronx Monday morning.

A police spokesperson said that Michael McGrath, 56, was traveling eastbound on East Tremont Avenue in Schuylerville around 7:50 a.m. when the crash occurred. According to the spokesperson, McGrath, who was off-duty at the time, was approaching Waterbury Avenue when "he struck the side portion of a truck" as the driver was making a left turn onto Waterbury.

McGrath was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The truck driver stayed at the scene. No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing.

McGrath was the Commanding Officer of the Police Cadet Corps. As of 1 p.m., he was still listed on the official Twitter account of the NYPD Cadet Corps.
