Yet another perfect day of late-summer weather is on tap for this afternoon. The high pressure system that's providing all the clear skies is pretty much centered right on the city today. The wind has started coming out of the south so, after a couple of cool days, we'll warm up to near 80 degrees. Tomorrow is not looking much different and neither is Friday.

A weak cold front is expected to arrive sometime Friday night and that is expected to, well, it's not expected to do very much. A few clouds may pop up on Saturday. Saturday's high might only reach the upper 70s instead of 80, but that's the extent of the change. That pattern should continue through Monday. Maybe Tuesday will be the next chance for rain, but let's not think about that just yet.

Hey, do you know what weather event happened 52 years ago today? Hurricane Donna trekked across eastern Long Island and into New England. Donna is one of the most notable hurricanes ever recorded. To this date, Donna remains the only storm to hit each state on the Eastern Seaboard, from Florida to Maine, with hurricane-force winds. Donna was also a Category 3 storm, nine straight days with sustained winds at least 111 mph, for a longer time than any other hurricane. She did so despite making landfall several times.

Donna's major impact on the city was an eleven-foot high storm surge, which inundated low-lying areas along the coast. We looked back at the hurricane's effect on Manhattan a couple of years ago. Since then we've discovered a great home movie of Donna hitting Rockaway Park filmed by a then-16-year-old Joseph Horton:
