The NYPD is working to identify suspects in a recent string of burglaries across the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens over the past two months.
Since December, nine drugstores in these boroughs have been targeted, with one to three suspects stealing cash, narcotics and other goods, police said. In several cases, the burglars fled in vehicles matching the same description, according to officials.
The spree began on Dec. 6, when the NYPD said an individual stole $200 and $35 worth of lottery tickets from a drugstore in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens, around 5 a.m. An hour later, two people smashed the glass front door of another drugstore in Pomonok, roughly a mile away and took $100 in cash from the register, according to police.
The third and fourth incidents occurred less than a week later, on Dec. 12, officials said. Around 5 a.m., someone unsuccessfully tried to break into a drugstore in Woodside before fleeing in a gray Infiniti sedan, authorities said. Half an hour later, three people attempted to pry open the gate of a drugstore less than two miles away before fleeing in a car matching the same description, according to the NYPD.
Later that week, on Dec. 15, a man broke into a Woodside drugstore shortly before 6 a.m. and stole about $400, officials said. Around the same time, two individuals broke into a drugstore in Corona but left empty-handed, the NYPD said. Twenty minutes later, two people smashed the glass door of a drugstore in Forest Hills and stole various narcotics before fleeing in an Infiniti sedan — the same vehicle seen in earlier incidents, according to officials.
On Dec. 20, around 5:50 a.m., two men broke into a drugstore in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, officials said. They stole $2,400 and narcotics before escaping in an Infiniti sedan, the NYPD said.
Most recently, last week, two men stole $448 worth of narcotics from a drugstore in the Bronx and fled in a car, according to authorities.
Police shared photos of the individuals allegedly involved in the Forest Hills burglary and the Infiniti sedan.
The string of drugstore break-ins is just one of several recent crime sprees across the city.
A trio of thieves allegedly stole cars and used them to steal ATMs at least 49 times across Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, according to police. Another group of three has targeted Uber, Lyft and Revel drivers in more than 20 incidents in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, according to the NYPD.
