As part of his plan to reduce the city's office space by 1.2 million square feet by the end of 2014 Mayor Bloomberg today announced that the city is looking for developers to bring commercial activities to the first and second floors of the Brooklyn Municipal Building at 210 Joralemon St. (the space is currently occupied by the Department of Finance).
"The iconic and beautiful Municipal Building has the foot traffic and the perfect location to help fuel a renaissance along Court Street and add to our growing list of retail about to set up shop in Downtown Brooklyn," added Brooklyn beep Marty Markowitz. Downtown Brooklyn already is already one of the larger shopping areas in the city, it sees 150,000 shoppers a day, and has more commercial space coming stores on the horizon, including a Barney's and the first Brooklyn Shake Shack. "
Bonus fun fact: when the it was completed in 1924 the building's total cost was just $5,800,000. Responses to the city's request are due by February 7, but in the meantime we can all play along at home. What would you like to see sprout up in the Municipal Building?
