A 16-year-old girl was stabbed and killed in a Bronx smoke shop Tuesday afternoon, police said as they searched for her assailant.
Aliyah Williams was at the shop on Boston Road and Mickle Avenue in Williamsbridge just before 4 p.m. when she was attacked after an altercation, according to NYPD officials. She was just two blocks from her home, police said.
First responders found her with multiple stab wounds to her head and body. They took her to Jacobi Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Officials said the suspect was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants. Police said they were still investigating whether Williams knew the suspect.
Blood spatters were visible on the ground outside the shop Wednesday morning. A worker inside the business declined to comment.
NYPD data shows most types of major crimes, including homicides, are up so far this year in the 47th Precinct, which covers northern Bronx neighborhoods including Williamsbridge, Woodlawn, Wakefield and Baychester.
Six people were killed in the precinct as of July 13, compared with four by the same point last year. Felony assaults, or serious attacks that can leave people with permanent injuries, were up 25%.
This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and has been updated.
