A Bronx cop went missing earlier this week with $40,000 his fellow officers had given him for a group trip to Seattle to see the Giants play the Seahawks. He was found hiding out in his car in his neighborhood on Friday, though it's unclear whether the money has also been recovered.
According to the NYPD, 46-year-old Elisha Duncan was last heard from on Wednesday, November 5th. The Post says he contacted his father to report he was having financial problems, having gathered the $40,000—$600 from each of the 60-or-so officers slated to go on the Seattle trip—shortly beforehand. "Yesterday was a deadline for him to return the money to them, and he did not have it. I believe that's what caused the problem right now," Duncan's father, Elisha Duncan, Sr., told the tabloid on Friday. "He was depressed."
Duncan, a 14-year veteran of the force, was seen at at the Empire City Casino in Yonkers on Wednesday. He was not seen again until officers found him at around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, hiding in his car in his Bronx neighborhood. Cops had not interrogated him as of last night.
The Daily News reports that Duncan had suffered a number of financial setbacks over the years, having declared bankruptcy in 2005. Cops reportedly believe he may have tried to hurt himself after disappearing with the cash.
