Mayor Bloomberg has been vocal in his support for same-sex marriage for a few years now, to a point. But as he's settled into his ill-gotten third term he's really gotten into the issue. First there was that video for the Human Rights Campaign and now he's pledging to use some of his hefty political weight to help the issue in Albany. "If there's a chance to pass a bill, I will do it," Bloomberg said. "I'll go lobby."
Of course, Bloomie has promised support for the issue before (regarding the GOP in Albany's stance on the issue he said in 2009: “I’m the main funder. You know, you can’t dictate every piece of legislation, and I don’t want to say that they’re bribable. But they know where I stand, and they want me to be a supporter.”) But now that same-sex legislation has support from a popular governor and the majority of Americans, the chances seem much higher that he'll follow through.
Which is good since we're not sure we can sit though another touching live debate only to get a repeat performance of this.
