Customs officers seized two charming baskets of delicious, home-baked cookies from a Guatemalan man at Newark airport earlier this month, not because they were "dangerously decadent" or "criminally tasty," but because they were stuffed with cocaine.

When Mauricio Isidro Rivera Hernandez arrived at Liberty International Airport on June 5, customs agents searched his bags and discovered two wicker baskets of round, chocolatey looking confections that vaguely resembled cookies but understandably required closer inspection. Indeed, further research revealed that the sweets contained a total of 118 "small oval-shaped pellets" that turned out to be $52,000 worth of blow, according to a release from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.

Hernandez now faces narcotics smuggling charges and will be prosecuted by the New Jersey State District Attorney’s Office in Newark.
