Police officers investigating yesterday's double homicide in the Bronx say the victims had been attempting to carjack a third individual, who then allegedly gunned them down.
Jermaine Johnson, 28, and Kaiison Lewis, 23, were both found suffering from gunshot wounds inside their Acura TL in the vicinity of Rombouts Ave and Light Street in Eastchester yesterday morning. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene, and Lewis was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The NYPD says they've taken an unidentified 30-year-old man into custody; according to the Daily News, police sources they say both Johnson and Lewis had attempted to carjack the man, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz, outside the Dyer Avenue Deli Grocery in Wakefield about 4:40 a.m.
The man allegedly fought back, and Johnson and Lewis fled to their car. Police say the attempted carjacking victim then sprayed their car with bullets from a firearm. He is currently in custody, and cops say he has been uncooperative. "To wake up to something like this is devastating, it is, it is, and especially with the children," a neighbor who lives near the crime scene told NY1. "I became afraid when I said I had to go downstairs and go to the door, you don't know whether the shots is gonna come in."
