A 41-year-old staffer at an ABC talk show was fatally shot in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn on Thursday. Ivan Giovanettina, who worked as a prop supervisor on The Chew, was found at around 11:30 p.m. on Macon Street near Throop Ave, with a bullet wound in his stomach.
Giovanettina, a Switzerland native who lived two blocks from where he was shot, was taken to Kings County Hospital Center and pronounced dead. Police suspect the killing was an attempted robbery, though Giovanettina's cell phone was found on him, and he had left his wallet at home. Surveillance video taken from a nearby store Thursday night shows two men suspected of the killing walking near Tompkins Avenue and Halsey Street, wearing hooded jackets, though police have still not made any arrests.
ABC released a statement about Giovanettina yesterday: "We are shocked and saddened to learn of Ivan Giovanettina's untimely death. He was a beloved member of our team and we extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends." Giovanettina's shooting was the second in the neighborhood on Thursday, after a father and his two-year-old son were shot in Herbert Von King Park at 2 p.m. that afternoon. As of yesterday, both victims were at a nearby hospital in stable condition.
