A 9-year-old boy was stabbed in the neck, head, and arm while walking to school in the Mariner's Harbor section of Staten Island this morning. The attack happened on Union Avenue near Leyden Avenue shortly after 8 a.m.; the boy tells police that an elderly man stabbed him without provocation. Security camera footage shows the graphic incident in full:
The victim, whose name is not being released, managed to escape his assailant and run home, where his 15-year-old brother called police. He was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center and is expected to recover. No arrests have been made and the suspect remains at large.
We'll update as more information becomes available.
