An 87-year-old man who was struck by a car outside his home on the Upper East Side died of his injuries last month.

Police say that Arthur Sporn was crossing Madison Avenue from west to east at around 10:20 a.m. on January 23rd when he was hit by the driver of a 2014 Toyota Prius turning left onto Madison from East 84th Street. The driver of the Prius remained at the scene, while Sporn was taken to Harlem Hospital, and succumbed to his injuries on February 2nd.

An NYPD spokeswoman said that the driver struck Sporn in the leg, which is notable because Sporn had been hit in the same leg by an automobile in 1957.

The police spokeswoman, Detective Kelly Ort, couldn't supply any more information on Sporn's crash 58 years ago, other than to say that doctors prevented an amputation, and couldn't say whether Sporn had the right of way when he was struck in January. Detective Ort added that no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

A spokeswoman for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said that Sporn's prior injury did not contribute to his death.
