An eight-year-old boy was spotted walking alone on the J tracks in Brooklyn yesterday, according to police. He was reported missing from his Bedford-Stuyvesant charter school before a good Samaritan found him.

Cops told Gothamist the child was reported missing from the Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School just before 1 p.m. yesterday. At 2:30 p.m., police were notified that the boy was spotted on the southbound J train track at the Halsey Street Station. Witnesses on the platform spotted the boy and managed to pull him to safety before a train came.

He was transported to Woodhull Hospital for evaluation, but was uninjured, according to police. Cops say he has since been reunited with his parents.

The Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School provided Gothamist with the following statement from Principal Dr. Christopher E. Petty:

At Brooklyn Excelsior Charter School, the safety and security of our students is always our top priority. When staff saw a student exit our building during school hours Tuesday morning, they immediately followed the student. Our staff quickly enlisted police to assist in locating the student, who was found shortly afterward. We appreciate the quick actions of the New York Police in helping to keep our student safe.

Because of student privacy, I am unable to share more details or answer specific questions. Know that we are reviewing this incident and will take appropriate steps to ensure we continue to provide a safe, secure learning environment for our students.
