A 71-year-old man who was walking to a Valentine's Day date was killed when he was hit by one car and dragged by another last night in Brooklyn's Flatbush section. Jean Jenniot had been crossing Flatbush Avenue and East 26th Street around 6:10 p.m. when he was struck. A worker nearby said, "Someone hit him one way, then another guy drove over him and he was dragged out. It’s a horrible intersection, it’s very dangerous."
A friend told the Daily News that Jeanniot, who came to Brooklyn from Haiti 34 years ago, "was talking to his girlfriend on his cell phone and getting ready to meet her when he was hit," saying, "He was dressed up. He knew it was Valentine’s Day, he wanted to do something [nice]." Another friend said, "He was like a father to me - he treated me like a real daughter. He was always there to help me and help everyone in the block.”
Jeanniot was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital. The first driver fled the scene while the second driver remained and was not charged. Cops are hoping to get a description of the first car.
