Four people were killed in shootings across New York City over the weekend, including two men who were gunned down near a Brooklyn migrant shelter, according to police.

A 21-year-old man and another man in his 30s were fatally shot on Sunday night within blocks of the Hall Street migrant shelter in Clinton Hill, NYPD officials said. Officers responded to one shooting near Flushing Avenue and Steuben Street around 10:45 p.m. and the other just a few minutes later in front of 29 Ryerson St.

Both men were pronounced dead at area hospitals. Police have not yet said if they’ve identified the men or released their names.

A 59-year-old man was also shot in the incident on Ryerson Street and was listed in critical condition, according to NYPD officials.

It wasn’t immediately clear on Monday morning if police had arrested anyone in those two incidents. Brooklyn Councilmember Crystal Hudson, whose district includes the area, said in a statement that police had "apprehended" a suspect and believed the shootings near the migrant center were related, but the NYPD has not confirmed any of those details.

“We mourn this senseless loss of life and remain committed to fighting gun violence across our city,” Hudson said. She said she was in touch with Mayor Eric Adams' office and the NYPD and would continue to update the community.

More deadly weekend shootings

In a different incident around 6 p.m. on Sunday, 41-year-old Raheem Blake was shot in the chest in front of his building on Park Avenue near East 161st Street in the Bronx's Concourse Village neighborhood. He was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital, according to police.

NYPD officials said detectives were working to identify a motive for the shooting, and did not have any descriptions of a possible suspect.

Two hours earlier in the Bronx neighborhood of Castle Hill, 52-year-old Jose Baez was fatally shot in front of a building on Bruckner Boulevard near Pugsley Avenue.

Police said they were looking for two people who fled the scene: a man with a white shirt and black pants and another man wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and a red hat.

Shootings down in these neighborhoods

Shootings are down about 9% citywide compared to this time in 2023, and are down in the neighborhoods where this weekend’s incidents took place.

Shooting incidents have decreased year to date in the 88th Precinct, the area near the migrant center, which includes Clinton Hill and Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn. Excluding Sunday night’s shootings, NYPD data shows that two incidents have been reported so far this year, compared to six last year.

One other person was fatally shot in the precinct this year — also on Hall Street, in January.

Assaults, robberies and burglaries have all increased in the precinct, with car thefts surging by as much as 97%, compared to this time last year, according to NYPD data.

Police data show that shootings have decreased slightly year to date in the 44th Precinct, which includes Concourse Village, where Blake was killed. Twenty-six incidents have been reported so far this year, compared to 30 by this time last year.

Six people were fatally shot in the precinct last year and four people have been fatally shot in the precinct this year so far, according to official data compiled by Gothamist.

Gun violence in the 43rd Precinct, which includes Castle Hill, where Baez was killed, has also decreased year to date. There have been 13 shooting incidents reported this year, compared to 15 by this time last year.

Seven people were fatally shot in the precinct last year, NYPD data shows. Baez is the first person to be reported killed by gunfire in the precinct so far this year.
