A 21-year-old was stabbed multiple times in a group attack at an Upper West Side subway station early this morning.

A police spokesperson says the incident happened just before 2 a.m. at the West 96th Street B/C station in Manhattan. The victim was standing on the northbound platform when he was attacked by a group of about eight men. He was stabbed in the torso with an unknown object; the suspects then fled the station on foot.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital, where he is expected to survive.

Police could not confirm if there was any sort of verbal dispute before the attack. They added that the investigation is ongoing.

In a series of tweets, the Sergeants Benevolent Association compared this stabbing to the 1991 stabbing of a Utah tourist: "LOOKS LIKE 1990’s AGAIN."

In a separate incident over the weekend, a 38-year-old man was stabbed and punched during an attempted mugging by a group of five people. That incident happened early Saturday morning aboard a northbound D train in Chinatown.

"They want to kill me basically, they wanted to stab me more times, but they didn't get the chance," victim Roberto Hernandez told ABC. "They just asked me for money. I told them I didn't have any, so I just got attacked." You can see a photo of those suspects below.
