The body of a two-year-old girl was discovered in a Far Rockaway home yesterday, and according to authorities the toddler exhibited signs of abuse, including broken ribs and bruising around the mouth.
The NYPD says they found the young girl, identified as two-year-old Kevasia Edwards, unconscious and unresponsive at her home on Rockaway Beach Boulevard on Beach 56th Place around 11:30 p.m. yesterday, after receiving a 911 call. Kevasia's body reportedly exhibited "bruising around her mouth;" she also had two broken ribs and was underweight, according to the Post. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and declared dead at around 12:02 a.m. this morning.
A police source told reporters that the home had a history with Child Protective Services and that Kevasia lived with her mother, who has four other children. The mother is currently being questioned by the NYPD, and has a prior arrest record for menacing and assault.
Kevasia's death comes one month after 4-year-old Myls Dobson was found dead in a Midtown bathroom; the toddler had suffered weeks of abuse allegedly at the hands of his caretaker, and a report conducted by the Administration for Children's Services concluded that the agency had missed signs pertaining to his father's custody over him.
