Two fatal crashes, within 24 hours, claimed the lives of two people, according to the NYPD.

Early Monday morning around 12 a.m., an unidentified man driving a 2026 Audi A5 and traveling southbound on Ocean Parkway crashed into the back of a 2023 Toyota Camry at the intersection of Avenue S in Midwood.

The Camry spun out of control and struck a 2021 Toyota RAV4 also traveling southbound on Ocean Parkway, according to police. Police said the 62-year-old driver of the Camry was transferred to Maimonides Medical Center and pronounced dead after the collision. A 39-year-old rear-seat passenger was also rushed to the hospital after suffering neck and back injuries.

The driver of the Audi fled the scene after the crash, police said. There have been no arrests as of Monday morning.

Less than a day before, a separate crash took the life of another passenger.

On Sunday morning, police said five people were inside a 2022 Honda Accord driving on Grand Central Parkway near the overpass of Steinway Street. Police said the driver lost control traveling westbound around 4 a.m. The driver hit into a guardrail on the parkway, hit a light pole, then the car overturned.

A 23-year-old woman, identified as Arianna Arregui, was pronounced dead after she was ejected from the vehicle, the NYPD said. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 34-year-old Anthony Dickson, was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while impaired.

These latest deaths add to a growing list of fatal traffic accidents. So far in 2026, at least 47 people have died in fatal crashes, according to city data last updated on August 31st.
