Numerous people were killed or wounded in violent incidents around NYC yesterday, beginning in the early morning hours Sunday when a man was shot outside of a Hell's Angels headquarters in the East Village after he reportedly tried to move a traffic cone. (The victim is expected to survive; no arrests have been made yet.)
Just after noon Sunday, police responded to a 911 call at 131-37 135th Place in Ozone Park, Queens. There, officers found 21-year-old Eric Assanah Jr. lying unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the torso. EMS responders later pronounced him dead at the scene. The NYPD has arrested 21-year-old Jonathan Chan in connection with Assanah's killing, on charges of murder, burglary, and resisting arrest.
Shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday night, 41-year-old Jose Morales was fatally shot in the head on the corner of East 175th Street and Weeks Avenue in the Bronx. According to police, Morales was declared dead at the scene while another unidentified man was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital with three gunshot wounds.
ABC reports that a gunman in his 30s wearing a black jacket was seen fleeing the shooting on foot on Weeks Avenue. No arrests have been made at this time, and police are still investigating.
Less than 30 minutes later, a 21-year-old woman was shot in her leg as she waited for a bus near the corner of West Kingsbridge Road and University Avenue, the News reports. Police sources told the tabloid the shooting may have been connected to a dispute earlier Sunday night, and that a group of teenagers were spotted fleeing the scene in a silver minivan. The unidentified woman was taken to Jacobi Hospital and is expected to survive.
Earlier in the evening, an argument outside of a Bushwick bodega turned violent when multiple men opened fire just before 6:30 p.m. ABC notes that four men were shot in the fray, and later taken nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Three men were reportedly seen fleeing the bodega shooting in a minivan, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shootout.
