A 15-year-old girl died yesterday after she was found shot in the head inside her apartment in Far Rockaway, according to authorities.
Police say they found Wilta Wordsworth, 15, around 12:03 p.m. on Friday inside her apartment on Collier Avenue near Beach 22nd Street. She had a gunshot wound to her head, and was transported to St. Johns Hospital, where she later died. Police say two men have been arrested, and charges are pending.
The Daily News reports that Wilta was in her apartment with a friend when she was shot. "My oldest daughter heard what happened,” a neighbor told the tabloid. “She was saying some girl knocked on her door saying ‘Help me, help me.’” The two men who were arrested were seen running out of the building after Wilta was shot.
Wilta had reportedly only just moved into the apartment with her family this summer.
