A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in the Bronx on Thursday morning, police said.

The shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. near East 171st Street and Crotona Place, near Crotona Park, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

Officers who responded found the boy shot once in the abdomen and drove him in their patrol car to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police have not identified the boy.

Authorities did not immediately describe any suspects or say how many there were.

The killing comes as shootings and murders are down this year in the 42nd Precinct, which covers the area. There have been 17 shootings in the precinct so far this year, compared with 27 last year at this time, according to NYPD data.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
