A 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death on Friday morning near his home at the Mitchell housing development in the Bronx's Mott Haven neighborhood, police said.
According to police, Caleb Rijos was stabbed twice in the chest at 9:25 a.m. at 300 East 138th St., around the corner from his home. He was found unconscious and unresponsive by police and transported to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
As of Friday afternoon, police were still investigating and had no description of a suspect.
The area of the Bronx is in the NYPD's 40th Precinct, which saw 14 murders last year and a rising number of assaults, according to police statistics. So far this year, there have been 11 assaults, compared to seven in the same period in 2021.
Correction: Due to incorrect information provided by the NYPD, this story has been updated with the accurate spelling of the victim's name.
