A 10-year-old boy was beaten up and mugged for his bike in The Bronx this week, and his father thinks NYC is too dangerous for him now. Victim Amro Munassar was walking home with his bike on Thursday when the incident happened.
The suspect was sitting on the steps of the Amro's building at 1398 Grand Concourse in Mount Eden; he allegedly punched the boy in the face, grabbed his bike, then took off. "You know, what are you going to do?" Amro told ABC.
Police are reviewing surveillance video and investigating the incident, but no arrests have been made so far. Amro's father, Fahmi Munassar, who works in a candy store around the corner from their home, doesn't think The Bronx and NYC are safe for his son anymore.
"It's scary and that's why I'm taking him back to his grandma...in Yemen," Fahmi Munassar said. "I don't know, I mean in the Bronx I can't even send him to the supermarket by himself. Over there it's just a neighborhood, nobody would steal anything from a baby. Adults would kill each other, but they wouldn't kill no baby."
Anyone with information about the missing bike is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto Crime Stoppers' website or by texting their tips to CRIMES (274637), then enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.
