2004_06_smets.jpgThe Mets head to Yankee Stadium having rebounded from a disastrous start to their current road trip. After dropping five of six, the Mets took two out of three from the Phillies and have to be feeling pretty good about themselves as they head to the Bronx. Pedro Martinez will get the series started for the Mets. Martinez has exceeded the Mets’ expectations going 7-2 with a 2.76ERA, but has struggled against the Yankees in the past. Tom Glavine and Kris Benson will pitch Saturday and Sunday.

2004_06_syankees.jpgThe Yankees will probably be happy to play anyone other than the Devil Rays. After opening their current homestand 6-0, the Yankees dropped three out of four to Tampa and have lost seven of nine overall against them this year. Mike Mussina will try and right the ship for the Yankees who will be forced to pitch Sean Henn on Saturday due to injuries. Randy Johnson will close the series on Sunday.

The Yankees took two out of three when these teams last played in May. Game one was an error-filled affair with the Yankees prevailing 5-2. The Mets got their revenge in Game 2 shelling Randy Johnson and making a cult hero out of Dae-Sung Koo. The Yankees took the series finale by coming back against the Mets bullpen to win 5-3.

Some will argue that the Subway Series has grown tiresome, but Gothamist still enjoys seeing the two local teams face off. The games are always sold out and there is a playoff atmosphere to each contest. Plus, this may be the closest these two teams get to the playoffs in 2005, so enjoy it!
