2005_12_recycle1.jpgIf you are thinking about clearing out some of your stuff, there's no better resource for disposal and recycling questions than the NYC Department of Sanitation's "How do I Dispose of..." page. We've literally spent hours clicking around-- they tell you how to get rid of pretty much anything you might have in your house. For instance, just the "S's":

Salad Bar Container.. see how to dispose of Household Non-Recyclables

Shampoo Bottle... see how to recycle Metal/Glass/Plastic Recyclables

Sharp Object... Place sharp object in a leakproof, puncture resistant container such as a heavy duty plastic laundry or bleach jug. When the container is full, seal the lid securely, tape it closed, label the container "Home Sharps" and place the container with your garbage for household Non-Recyclables collection. Do NOT place a "Home Sharps" container in a recycling bag or container.

Sink, Metal... see How to dispose of Metal Bulk

Skates, Roller, Metal... see how to recycle Metal/Glass/Plastic Recyclables

Skates, Roller, Plastic... see how to dispose of Household Non-Recyclables

Stove... see How to dispose of Metal Bulk

Styrofoam... see how to dispose of Household Non-Recyclables

Syringe... Place syringe in a leakproof, puncture resistant container such as a heavy duty plastic laundry or bleach jug. When the container is full, seal the lid securely, tape it closed, label the container "Home Sharps" and place the container with your garbage for household Non-Recyclables collection. Do NOT place a "Home Sharps" container in a recycling bag or container.
