Despite missing Marian Gaborik and Chris Drury, the Rangers struck first and held off the Maple Leafs to earn their first win since opening night in Buffalo in a 2-1 win over the Maple Leafs at the Garden. Ruslan Fedotenko and Artem Anisimov had the tallies to back Martin Biron, who was making his start with the Rangers. The two Blueshirts goals came 61 seconds apart.

In Tampa, an overtime goal by Matt Moulson gave the Islanders a 3-2 win over the Lightning. A video replay of the goal required 10 minutes before officials finally awared the Islanders the game-winner. Michael Grabner and PA Parenteau also scored for the Islanders, who still have not beaten the Lightning in regulation in the team's last 11 meetings.

A Martin Brodeur shutout? Things must be returning to normal. Brodeur stopped all 29 Montreal shots in a 3-0 win over the Canadiens. Both New Jersey wins have been shutouts by Brodeur, who has 112, the most in NHL history. Jason Arnott had a goal and an assist, former Devil Brian Gionta took two interference penalties and Zach Parise and Matt Taormina had the other Devils goals. Montreal did not get a shot on goal in the final nine minutes.

Two years ago, they were the Western Conference champions thanks to a low playoff seed and MLS' crazy playoff machinations. Last year, they were the worst team in the Eastern Conference. This season, the Red Bulls have clinched the best mark in the conference with a 2-0 win over the Revolution. Dane Richards and Joel Lindpere scored the goals. They'll start the playoffs in a home-and-home next week.
