Twins 6, Yankees 2: Beating Johan Santana is tough enough with an A lineup. Doing it with three reserves becomes nearly impossible. The Yankees tried and failed to beat the Cy Young Award winner by sending out Kevin Thompson, Miguel Cairo and Wil Nieves on the same day. Part of the blame goes to manager Joe Torre for choosing to rest everyone en masse, but part of the blame can rest on the Yankees' perpetual indifference to who is on their bench.
On the mound, Mike Mussina looked sharp until he gave up a two-run homer in the seventh inning to end his afternoon. He has been much better of late, but the Yankees can't afford to waste decent outings like this. The teams play another game Thursday afternoon. Kei Igawa will see if he can allow fewer than three home runs.

Rockies 17, Mets 7: If you thought last night's Mets loss was lopsided, the Rockies had something in store for you. Orlando Hernandez became the latest pitcher to find out how the mile-high air at Coors Field can ruin a breaking ball's effectiveness. The Mets wasted a 3-0 lead and ended up losing all three games in Colorado. For their part, the Rockies swept both New York teams in the same season, becoming the first team to ever do so. In the three-game series, the Rockies scored an insane 34 runs off 47 hits. The Mets travel to another hitter's ballpark in Houston for a four-game series beginning Thursday.

Staten Island 4, Brooklyn 3 (11 innings): One run in the ninth to tie it and another in the 11th to take a lead just made this a more excruciating loss for the Cyclones, who gave up two runs in the bottom of the inning. They made three errors in that half inning and allowed the winning run to score on a wild pitch. Ouch.
