A marquee matchup? Not so much. That said, the Knicks will take it. Stephon Marbury had 31 points and Malik Rose added 18 against his old team as the Knicks beat the Spurs 88-75 last night at the Garden. The game was rather messy, as 2-time MVP Tim Duncan, Kurt Thomas, and Penny Hardaway all missed the game due to injury. A gimpy Manu Ginobili (who has a groin injury) played, but rarely contributed in the contest.
A side note: Gothamist attended the game, and felt we had entered another dimension. All pre-game intros were done in Spanish (which seemed awkward until they got to Argentina's Manu Ginobili), and the halftime featured a Spanish language rap-dance troupe called Oro Solido. It turns out that it was all part of a promotion called "Noche de Ritmo". We were so confused.
In other NBA news, Paul Silas and Johnny Davis are fired from the Cleveland and Orlando head coaching jobs, leading the NY Times to examine whether black coaches get less time to succeed in NBA coaching jobs.
