The "real" Oktoberfest in Munich has actually been raging since the 17th of September, and the last dregs will be drained on Monday. Fortunately, we live in America, where real beer fans put the K in Oktober all month long. But tonight (Saturday) you can celebrate the German way at the classic Williamsburg beer mecca Radegast Hall & Biergarten, which is throwing a big bash featuring a "mug holding contest."

A mug holding contest, we're told, is a feat of strength wherein contestants fill up one of Radegast's giant glass mugs with beer and hold them out at a 90 degree angle. The tippler who holds his or her beer up the longest wins a special prize: the beautiful two liter glass beer "boot" seen below. The contest is at 7:30 p.m. sharp, but there will be a brass band playing from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., a celebratory keg tapping, and a pig roast. No cover! (North 3rd Street and Berry.)

And if you're still thirsty Sunday, head on over to Frankies Spuntino in Carroll Gardens, which is throwing its 3rd annual Oktoberfest in the beautiful back garden. Take your pick from be a lavish Prime Meats menu of bratwurst, schnitzel, oysters, and pretzels, and wash it all down with Sixpoint pilsner, hot cider, and a variety of German beers. Oompah band the Ja Ja Ja's will provide live musical accompaniment.

Tickets for the food and beverage cost $2 each (the items are all priced in $2 increments) with a portion off the proceeds going to Edible Schoolyard NYC We're told that the popularity of this event has grown "exponentially" over the years, and once the garden reaches capacity, they stop letting people in, so plan on arriving early and bringing your wooden leg. The fun starts at noon at 457 Court Street.
