With the Giants getting ready for a very unusual Super Bowl tomorrow in Indianapolis, it is only fitting that it took a very unusual set of circumstances for them to get their beloved and traditional Friday after-practice Long Island pizza there. Umberto's was given a police escort to LaGuardia Airport yesterday in order to fly out to Indy to deliver 15 pies to the team. And the millionaires seemed to enjoy the fact that greenhouse gases were pumped into the atmosphere so they could enjoy lukewarm pizza, despite a lack of salsa.
“They were gone in less than 10 minutes,” Gaetano Corteo, the restaurant’s general manager who made and then delivered the pies to the team yesterday, told the Post. “They destroyed all of the pies. There was nothing left,” said Corteo, who dropped off the pies inside their team's temporary practice home at the University of Indianapolis. “If there had been 10 more pies, they would have destroyed those too,” said friend Dino Gatto, who was traveling with Corteo.
It's just too bad they didn't take this opportunity to bring over all the other booty they've acquired through their improbable playoff run—nothing quite gets the heart pumping like a mix of local Green Bay cheese curds and Titletown’s Sno-Cap root beer, classic San Francisco sourdough bread, and uh, this guy's booty.
