2005_11_food_beaujolais.jpgToday's the day for Beaujolais. As we learned last year, Beaujolais Nouveau is a "light bodied, fruity, easy-to-drink red wine made from the Gamay grape" and it comes out every year on the third Thursday of November -- which is today, conveniently. Many, many wine shops are offering tastings. Visit LocalWineEvents.com to find a tasting in your neck of the woods tonight, this weekend, or sometime next week.

From November 17th through the 20th, you can find dishes featuring Beaujolais Nouveau 2005 as a star ingredient at the following restuarants:

Rain (100 West 82nd Street, 212 501-0776): Lemongrass-crusted filet mignon with Beaujolais Nouveau Citrus Sauce; Nice Matin (201 West 79th Street, 212.873.6423) Braised Beef Short Ribs; Nice Matin (201 West 79th Street, 212.873.6423) & Marseille (630 Ninth Avenue, 212.333.3410): Beaujolais Nouveau Sorbet; Calle Ocho (446 Columbus Avenue, 212 873-5025): Beaujolais poached pears stuffed with Cabrales, served with Beaujolais sorbet and almond creme anglaise.

In addition to these, there's a huge list of restaurants with special events or menus highlighting this year's harvest, including Les Halles, serving a special prix fixe dinner menu to be paired with Beaujolais (15 John Street, (212) 285-8585), Le Jardin Bistro, where from 6pm-midnight, you can enjoy all-you-can-drink 2005 Beaujolais Nouveau along with a prix fixe dinner (25 Cleveland Pl b/w Spring & Kenmare, (212) 343-9599), and Balthazar, where you can taste their wide selection of Beaujolais Crus & Nouveau (80 Spring Street, (212) 965-1414)

Finally, you can find a list of restaurants near you serving this year's Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau online. So drink up!
