For the first time since the Rainbow Room opened back in 1934, the adjacent outdoor terrace is open for your high-altitude drinking and dining needs. Be advised that the drinks are not cheap, but the panoramic views from this 65th floor aerie are priceless.

The newly-opened terrace is an extension of SixtyFive lounge, located on the same floor of the iconic Rainbow Room, which reopened last year after a long period of dormancy. Specialty cocktails start at $20 and climb higher from there, but you can order a glass of Grüner Veltliner from the well-curated wine list for $16. The cocktail menu is divided into "Classic" and "Contemporary"; the latter section includes an unexpected Napoleon Dynamite reference in the Vote for Pedro!, a stiff twist on the classic Martinez, made with Old Tom Gin and Pedro Ximenez sherry. Come get some ham.

The prices are about what you'd expect for the location, which is spectacular, with commanding views of downtown Manhattan, Central Park, and beyond. The whole scene really comes alive after sunset, when the city's grime dissolves into a treasure chest of black onyx and gold. And it's maybe worth pointing out that the SixtyFive terrace is just below the Top of the Rock observation deck, which charges $30 admission. SixtyFive has no cover charge and boasts essentially the same view.

The food menu features a variety of sushi and sashimi, including a delicious Salmon Sashimi cleverly served in a something resembling a sardine tin, with Black Truffle, Bonito Braised Turnips and Asian Pear. The requisite small plates menu has the requisite Wagyu Beef Sliders, but there's also a very tasty Crispy Triple Fried Potatoes with Rosemary Salt and Truffle Aioli.

SixtyFive's terrace is not taking reservations; it's currently open for walk-ins only from 5 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday. (You'll find the entrance at 49 West 49th Street, just off Sixth Avenue.) Peruse the full menu below.
