It's been a tough go for the Seaport since Hurricane Sandy, with each summer bringing a different temporary setup to the cobblestoned streets. Brooklyn Flea had a go, plus the Beekman Beer Garden, and now it's the turn of a new, multi-venue operation under the Ambrose Hall moniker, which includes a beer hall, an outdoor beer garden, and a rooftop "surf club."
First up, Ambrose Hall, which boasts wood benches and a long communal bar situated beneath exposed beams and atop unfinished concrete flooring. It'll be the spot to catch late summer Yankee games or stop in for a post-run pint of Peak Organic and some casual fare like sandwiches and salads. Eventually they'll begin a live music program; until then, views out onto Fulton and Front Streets provide some entertainment.
Across the cobblestones, as it were, the Beer Garden and upstairs Surf Club awaits. A walk-up bar with some picnic tables signals you've entered the "garden," where you can procure both beers and cocktails to imbibe amidst the buildings. Perched atop the renovated shipping containers that have occupied the area for the past year you'll find the Surf Club, with its brightly colored decor and illuminated cube tables. There's yet another bar up there, where you can order a drink and peer down at the tourists below.
Ambrose Hall, Ambrose Surf Club and Ambrose Beer Garden are all located the South Street Seaport; ambrosehallny.com
