Rejoice french fry lovers—a.k.a. everyone ever. Beloved East Village fry shop Pommes Frites has found a new home after its original location was destroyed in the Second Avenue explosion. Co-owners Omer Shorshi and Suzanne Levinson told DNAinfo that they'll be relocating to a slightly larger space at 128 MacDougal Street, even deeper into the heart of NYU territory. They're looking to open in their new space sometime this fall.
The search for a new spot apparently came at a cost, namely a huge increase in the amount of money they'll spend on rent each month. At the old spot, they forked over $5,000 monthly for their 500-square-foot space; now, they'll pay almost double at $9,000 for an 800-square-foot space. It seems they were lucky to find anything remotely reasonable, even with the move a little bit west in Manhattan.
Along with their newer, bigger digs, the team plans to apply for a beer and wine license to further service the late-night crowds that dig on their thick cut fries and dipping sauces. We've reached out to ask whether this means they'll stay open past their previous 1 a.m. curfew and we'll update when we know more. They're also planning another crowd funding campaign to help defer costs for the move to Greenwich Village.
