As Downtown Brooklyn welcomes more gleaming developments, it'll need more bars and restaurants to service the influx of new residents arriving over the coming years. They'll find one neighborhood spot with Myrtle & Gold, an airy new eatery that opened inside the shuttered Palmer's space on—you guessed it!—the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Gold Street. Some of the four partners are also involved with Windsor Terrace's The Double Windsor, and have brought some of the craft beer and elevated bar food mentality to their new venture.

Where the Windsor plants itself firmly in bar territory, co-owner Eric Horowitz tells us Myrtle & Gold is a restaurant that also happens to have a bar. Chef Paul Cacicci—who's responsible for the grub at the Windsor as well—is doing gourmet comfort foods like burgers ($12), mac & cheese and brick chicken, plus more refined dishes like a collection of heartily-topped bruschetta and a kale and quinoa salad ($10). The sriracha honey chicken wings ($12), a favorite from their other joint, are also on the menu here.

All the owners have a different go-to when it comes to alcohol; Horowitz is more of a beer and whiskey guy, where partner Theo Maniatis is more knowledgeable about wine. They'll have a range of craft beers on tap, including two seasonal offerings; happy hour from 4 - 7 p.m. means $1 off select beers, wines and spirits. Myrtle & Gold will open daily at 7 a.m. to operate their up front espresso bar, which also serves pastries from Bien Cuit. Then Dinner service from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the bar stays open until 2 a.m.

While they're finding their footing, they're keeping things simple, but Horowitz says they plan to make full use out of the wall-mounted Bingo board leftover from their predecessor. Once the temperature stays over 60 consistently, they're expecting to open up their adjacent patio, which'll offer an additional 100 seats looking out over bustling Myrtle Avenue.
