In case you haven't heard, a hybrid hurricane/winter storm is due to hit the city in the next few days, and everyone is going FRANKENMAD over it. It's still unclear exactly how powerful Hurricane Sandy will be once she reaches here, or whether the MTA actually will shut down, but at least we have one piece of concrete news: the Lower East Side Pickle Day has been rescheduled for NEXT Sunday, November 4th—no storm is going to sour their pickles.
The event was originally scheduled to occur tomorrow. This year marks the 11th anniversary of pickle pushcarts storming through the LES for a family-friendly chance to celebrate all things salted and cured. Besides the date change, everything else remains the same: LES Pickly Day will take over Orchard Street from East Houston to Delancey Streets from 12-5 p.m. next Sunday.
There will be pickle vendors, over 30 LES food and fashion vendors (including AsiaDog, Rick's Picks, Divine Brine, McClure's, Arirang Kimchee) astroturf, and activities such as: face painting, belly and ballroom dancing and instruction, home pickling instruction, ping pong (pickle pong?), urban croquet, badminton, DJ's (including 8-year-old wunderkind DJ Kai Song) and more. Check out the full event list, and list of participating vendors, here.
