The beautiful Beekman Building has been restored and transformed into a swanky hotel, complete with swanky restaurants from celebrity chefs to feed well-heeled hotel guests and visitors. One of those is Augustine, by prolific and French-leaning restaurateur Keith McNally, who debuted the restaurant this week. His latest spot has shades of his two most famous French spots, Balthazar and Pastis, with flattering brasserie features like tiles and mirrors and vintage-type light fixtures. The man knows how to create a certain mood.
Chefs Shane McBride and Daniel Parilla (both McNally go-tos) aim to please with offerings of French classics like Steak Frites, and weekly "Plats du Jour" including Cassoulet with rabbit, bouillabaisse, and mussels. The burger here is not quite up there with McNally's Black Label Burger at Minetta Tavern, but it's close, ringing in at $26. In other words: bring the expense account buddies.
As it's in a hotel, Augustine will eventually serve brunch (coming in December) and breakfast (coming in January). For now, it's open for dinner daily at 5:30 p.m.
Augustine is located inside The Beekman at 123 Nassau Street; augustineny.com
