It's preppy portmanteaus and "Yesterday Lo Mein" at Clancey, the latest barstaurant to squeeze into the Lower East Side. Opened in December, the restaurant's posted up on Clinton and Delancey (there's your name explainer), offering an eclectic lineup of dishes in the realm of comfort food with some global flair thrown into the mix.
That Lo Mein's served with pork belly ($12), there are Chargrilled Oysters with garlic butter ($14) and they're claiming to have The Best Chicken Sate You Ever Ate ($9), a bold proclamation, in the appetizer section. In the entree section, an "Obligatory" burger with fried onions and smashed potatoes ($15), Bourbon Glazed Shrimp ($19) and dearly departed 'Inoteca's truffled egg toast lives on with a tribute Truffle Grilled Cheese with asparagus and runny eggs ($14).
Cocktails ($12) veer into classic territory like a Clancey Manhattan made with Woodford Reserve Rye and the GLG, a gimlet made with the juice of grilled limes. Kiddie classics like Welch's Grape Juice are tainted with vodka and Red Bull, but fresh lemonade can only be improved with bourbon.
79 Clinton Street, 917-388-3575; clanceynyc.com. Closed Mondays.
