A benefit show is being held on Friday at Union Pool for the family of longtime Williamsburg chef Colin Devlin, whose body was found in Pennsylvania last month after he apparently committed suicide.
Devlin, who became a pioneer in the Brooklyn food scene when he opened Dumont in 2001, and later, Dumont Burger and the recently-shuttered Dressler, was found dead on July 25 in his car near a Pennsylvania cemetery. He disappeared shortly after leaving a business meeting in which he learned that his existing restaurants were facing financial problems.
All proceeds from the show, the lineup of which will include American Darlings, Dead Stars and Easter Hollow, will go toward a scholarship fund for Devlin's children, Ludivine and Cole. The event kicks off at 6 p.m., and tickets are $10 at the door.
Fans of Devlin's eateries will be relieved to know that neither Dumont nor Dumont Burger will be shuttering anytime soon. Eater published a statement from his restaurant group last week:
Devlin Metro Group, DuMont, and DuMont Burger would like to express our gratitude for the outpouring of support and love that the community has offered in the wake of Colin Devlin's passing. Thank you so much for your continued encouragement and patronage. We look forward to serving you in the future.
