Blah blah cold, blah blah rain, blah blah spring is a brutal, sad lie. The only way to solve April's unbearable dampness is to eat yourself into a food coma and hope the sun finds you once you've finally digested. Here's where to do that this week:
On Monday, culinary enthusiast group Slow Food NYC will host its monthly happy hour at Venturo Osteria, an Italian eatery in Sunnyside, Queens. The restaurant will be offering up $5 wines and bites for the Slow Foodies, and the event, which runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., is free to attend; RSVP online.
Head to the 92nd Street Y on Wednesday for a talk on Tasting America: Cultural Identity in Contemporary Cuisine, as part of their Kitchen Arts & Letters series. Corey Lee of Benu and Thomas Keller of The French Laundry and Per Se will be on hand to discuss American cuisine and its cultural influences,; a signing of Lee's book, Benu, will follow the talk. The event kicks off at 8:15 p.m. and tickets are $30; purchase online.
And on Thursday, Ainsworth Park in Union Square will host its second Craft Beer Thursday, offering $5 brews all day. Sierra Nevada Brewing Company will be on hand from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to pour pints from their collection.
