Popular Chelsea tapas restaurant El Quinto Pino—where the Times's former dining critic Frank Bruni "had the sandwich of my life, filled with vivid orange uni" in 2007—has been shut down by the Health Department. The dainty restaurant racked up 44 violation points during a Friday inspection. Infractions ranged from evidence of rats and mice, to improper plumbing, to a failure to post "Choking first aid" and "Alcohol and pregnancy" signs. (Unfortunately, inspectors had no authority to cite them for having the nerve to charge $15 for that dinky, overrated sandwich.) An employee tells Grub Street the restaurant is closed while they "repair rain damage" in the basement. Well, we did have a lot of rain... last week? Didn't we?
